A Pioneer Passes

John Lindau, aged 71, died at his home in Liberty Tuesday, September 6. He had been ill for the last year and was cared for faithfully by his wife, Mrs. Dressler Lindau, whom he married a few years ago.

He was born in Clay county and spent his entire life here. He was a successful farmer and an upright, respected citizen, quiet and unassuming but dependable and faithful to all trusts.

His chief interest, outside of business, was his church. He joined the Liberty Methodist church more than thirty years ago. He was soon made a steward of the church and served in that capacity until his death. Always in his place, until illness prevented for the past few months, his absence was marked and regretted by the whole congregation.

His first wife was Mattie Weber, who died in 1925. The children surviving are: Two daughters, Mrs. H. H. Thompson, Rawson, O., and Mrs. J. W. De Mand, Lincolnville, Kas., and three sons, L. H. Lindau, Liberty; S. P. Lindau, Los Angeles, and L. W. Lindau, Woodward, Tex. None of the children away from here was able to attend the funeral.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. H. H. Luetsow, at the Methodist church in Liberty, Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The pall bearers were Dr. F. H. Matthews, C. H. Sevier, C. D. Sparks, A. O. Bush, A. B. Crawford and Roland Main.
