Rymer is located seven miles from Mannington on the Buffalo Road. The area has also been known as where the "fork" of the Buffalo and Warriors Fork Road meets, between Logansport and Brink in the western part of Marion County. Located within a valley, with Buffalo Creek flowing through, Rymer is a small, quiet, and peaceful community . .

During 1887 there was a severe smallpox epidemic, and a doctor by the name of F. A. Rymer came to the service of the community at its time of need. In return for his great deed, the name of Rymer was submitted as the name for the postoffice and was accepted. The community then became known as Rymer.
